The Problem Every Educator Knows

You want to honour First Nations culture in your classroom. But most resources feel tokenistic.

Printed posters fade. Plastic decorations gather dust. Children can tell the difference between something thrown on a wall and something that means something.

You need a resource that earns its place — every single day.

😤

Group time lacks intention

Without a dedicated gathering space, circle time drifts. Children fidget. There's no sense of 'this is our special space.'

🪆

Generic resources don't feel genuine

Educators know mass-produced Aboriginal-style decor doesn't serve your children or respect the culture you're trying to honour.

📋

Hard to evidence EYLF cultural outcomes

Programming around cultural identity requires tangible, embedded resources — not just a unit plan pulled out once a year.

The Solution

A gathering space that does the teaching for you — every single day.

The Yarning Oval Rug is more than floor covering. It's a permanent invitation — a space children recognise as meaningful, safe, and theirs.

Place it in your room and watch the culture shift. Children gather with intention. Stories get shared. Cultural learning becomes embedded in your daily rhythm.

Meet the Artist

Kiz Costelloe — artwork that carries real story.

Kiz is a proud Mandandanji and Noonuccal woman, born and raised in Rockhampton, Queensland. Her elders are her greatest inspiration, and through her art she carries forward her uncle's legacy.

She has spent years using art and culture to build confidence in people of all ages. Her work isn't decoration. It's an invitation into Country, community, and connection.

When creating the yarning oval artwork, I've used symbols which represent community and gathering. They create a welcoming space for each individual to come together.

Why It Matters

These children will carry this their whole lives.

The moment a child sits in a yarning circle, they learn something no worksheet can teach — that their voice matters, that listening is a form of respect, and that culture is alive and present in their everyday world.

For First Nations children, it's a mirror that says your culture belongs here. For every child, it's a window into the oldest living culture on Earth — not as history, but as something real and woven into their daily life.

That's not a decoration. That's an education that lasts.
